… is playing in the rain.

… is when love & life never stops even through the twilight years.

And that’s all that should matter to those who matter.

Stop n Stretch

Posted in Fitness, Health with tags on May 18, 2011 by eleenpor

I first felt it way back in circa 2003-2004.

Between 12-16 hours daily glued to a non-ergonomic chair and a burning drive to prove myself in the challenging corporate world, it was a price I knowingly paid. However, what I didn’t know was that it’s gonna be a life-long price which I’d continually pay for years to come.

So folks, if your job is as desk-bound as mine is, take heed.

  • No matter how engrossed you get with your job, stop and take a break.
  • No matter how tight your timeline is, stop and take a break.
  • No mater how much adrenalin is pumping through your being, stop and take a break.

By take a break, I meant do a bit of stretching. Stand up. Walk over to your colleagues just to say hi. Go make yourself a cup of coffee/tea/milo. Go out to the garden and take a sniff of the greenery. Go to the window and look out. Enjoy the view. Daydream a little. Then go back to the drill.

All that can be in five minutes or less. It’s really up to you.
Then hopefully, you will never have to know the meaning of lower back pain.

Trust me, if there’s one thing in this world that you never need to know, this is it.

Why? Because the helplessness kills. Not being able to do the most basic everyday things like sitting on the toilet bowl to pee. Not being able to get out of bed when the alarm goes off in the morning. Not being able to turn your body in the middle of the night. Not being able to sneeze or cough without feeling the sharp pain coursing from your spine to your brain.

One sure way to keep lower back pain at bay is to strengthen your lower back muscles in order to protect your spine. Something I keep forgetting when I get high on my cardio fixes at the gym. Reminder to self : Spend some time doing lower back strengthening exercises after my daily cardio sessions.

Some sites if you have the time to read up.

On the other hand, if pictures draw a thousand words for you, here are some good graphics.

For instructions on how to get into the above positions without overly-contorting yourselves, here’s the link :

I know I will be doing more of these now.

Folks, life’s too precious to be abused and then ignored.

Live it full and live it well.

Realizing a Dream

Posted in Break, Fun, Holiday with tags , on May 14, 2011 by eleenpor

I have many, many dreams. Some long term ones, some short term ones.

Recently, one of the long term ones just got fast tracked to the top of the list. Not sure what happened but guess I must’ve done some things right. Heh…

So in a few more weeks, I am going to be living the dream.

Here’s a teaser of what I’ve signed up for.

More to come as the dream date draws nearer. Needless to say, there’s much homework to be done.

Excited? You bet!

No turning back

It’s signed and sealed.

No more worrying if it’s too big a leap.
No more worrying if it’s too high a risk.
No more worrying if it’s too crazy an idea.
No more worrying if it’s too wild a step.

There’s just no turning back now.

*excited* *scared* *excited* *scared* *excited*  *excited*  *excited*  *excited*  *excited*  *excited*  *excited* *excited*  *scared*  *excited*  *excited*  *excited*  *scared*  *excited*  *excited*  *excited*  *excited*

No need that many guesses to know which one’s prevailing.

For what it’s worth

Many folks talk about their wants, their needs and their ultimate goal in Life. Then they talk about the sacrifices required to realize those wants and needs.

Some sacrifices are expected while some are so extreme they made you wonder.

I know what I want and I know how much I want but do I turn a deaf ear and a blind eye to the world just to achieve that want? It’s easy to throw a resounding YES! but I sat down to think about it long and hard.

Sure, I want it bad. Sure, I’d do the best I can for it. Sure, I’d even make huge sacrifices for it. But would I close my door to what the world has to offer me? Can’t say I would.

Doesn’t mean I want it any less. Doesn’t mean I believe in it any less. And most definitely doesn’t mean I can’t do it any better.

It just means I know that as I journey through the path I have chosen, I have accumulated my worth to the world. And the world knows it as much as I do.

So do I close my door to the opportunities the world is offering me? Definitely not. Because I know I am worth it. And because I know I surprise myself every time I venture out of my comfort zone.

One thing’s for sure.

The world never fails to knock us off our feet. Every single time. And that’s as sure as the sun setting everyday.

So I know that I can and I will land well every time I get knocked over.

Simply because I have prepped for it all my life.

Cycle of Life

I think I was 6 when my mom bought me my first bicycle.

Although it came with the 2 side/training wheels, she insisted that I shouldn’t be getting too reliant on them for too long. So I enjoyed the safety of the training wheels for the whole of one week. Then off they went and I never saw them again to this day.

However, thanks to her, I became a very independant rider at a very young age. I was zooming around the neighbourhood in my BMX when my older cousins were still struggling with their kiddo bikes. LOL!

Of late, we seem to be getting alot of those heart-warming ‘reversed role’ moments. I cannot help but smile when I see the look of excitement on my folks’ faces during those times that I get to do for them what they used to do for me as a kid.

This is mom testing out the bikes at the supermarket last night.

Picture was taken inside the supermarket as she was taking the bike for mini test rides.

Never mind that the other shoppers were staring, wondering why an auntie was zooming around the supermarket on a bike. Never mind that the supermarket security was keeping a sharp eye on her,  ready to throw us out should she knock into any shoppers.

She just couldn’t be bothered what others thought as long as she gets to test out all the potential bikes. Yup, as long as she is happy, nothing else (except family) matters much. I think I got that from her. Heh.

She finally decided on the foldable bike.

“So that we can fold the bike and put it in the back of the Harrier as we explore all the beautiful parks in this country!”, she excitedly said to me.

What else can I do but nod and smile, happy that I am given the opportunity to give back what she so selflessly gave in my growing up years.

So yeah…we are going to the park this weekend.

So sorry for the lack of updates in this space, folks.

Been so busy. Livin’ & lovin’.

I wonder if this space is gonna turn into a milestone space, where it’s only updated when certain milestones are accomplished. Hmmm…think some things may change around here soon. I still haven’t decided how and when, though.

For now, here’s what I want to share with you today.

It’s what makes me grin like a silly schoolgirl.
It’s what makes me know that I am definitely in the right place at the right time.
It’s what makes me beam with pride, knowing I am worth it.
It’s what makes it bearable during times when I miss you so.

Here it is.

This is the hard (and fun!) work of 80-odd folks in a span of 1 hour.

Awesome, right?
I know it is.

And I am so darn proud of us!
